Curious Magic is a close-up specialist. He is an Associate of The Inner Magic Circle with Silver Star – one of the higher grades the society awards – and he has been performing for more than 25 years.

Close-up magic is the hardest kind to do well, because there is nowhere to hide. There is no stage, no lighting rig and no distance. A card is shuffled by a guest, held by a guest, and lost by a guest – and it still turns up where it cannot possibly be. A borrowed ring, a coin, a lemon from the table: ordinary things, doing things they should not do, six inches from somebody’s face.

He works the room table to table, or standing up among guests during a drinks reception. Nobody is dragged to the front and nobody is made to look foolish. People simply look up, see something they cannot explain, and immediately start telling the person next to them about it. That is usually the point at which a quiet room turns into a lively one.

Where he performs

Curious Magic is based in South Wales and performs regularly across Wales, Bristol and Avon, Herefordshire and Shropshire. He travels further for weddings and corporate bookings – one booking took him from South Wales to Moray in the north of Scotland. If your date is outside his usual area, ask anyway.
